What is the BIG NIGHT IN?
A community-based fundraiser for First Steps Housing Project Inc. (First Steps).
A coordinated series of parties will be held simultaneously throughout the
Greater Saint John area – at the same time, on the same date, Saturday, November 26th!
The concept of the BIG NIGHT IN is that the Saint John Region rallies together on one night to create a synergy in our community.
What is First Steps
First Steps provides supportive housing (first and second stage), day care, schooling and outreach services for pregnant and parenting young women and their children who have no safe place to live. First Steps strives to ensure that pregnant young women will have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby; and through partnering with existing community services will assist these young women in moving toward self-sufficiency and a better quality of life.
What is the format for the fundraiser?
It can follow whatever format you choose (i.e. potluck, gourmet, hors d’oeuvres, themed party, casual get-together, backyard barbecue, work Christmas party, black-tie evening, etc.). Invite as many of your friends and colleagues as you like and ask them to bring a donation for First Steps. IT IS THAT SIMPLE! It can be as creative as you like or as simple as dinner with friends.
How much does each person have to donate?
Donations of all amounts will be accepted, however, tax receipts will only be given for amounts over $10.
Who can be a host?
Anyone who is willing to host a Big Night In party for First Steps! So, if you know of anyone else, please pass the information on to them. The more, the merrier!
Who can be a guest?
Anyone can attend a party, as long as they bring a donation for First Steps. If someone is unable to attend a party they can still make a donation to your party or directly to First Steps.
What do I get for becoming a host?
You will receive a complete Host Kit, which will include:
- A registration form
- Invitations
- Donation Cards and tracking forms
- First Steps information
- Your name entered into a draw for some incredible prizes
What is my deadline for hosting a party for First Steps?
Our goal is to have all of our parties hosted on Saturday, November 26th, thus the concept of the BIG NIGHT IN. However, if you would like to host a party but cannot make that date work, you can certainly host it at any time. You may not be eligible for some of the prizes though.
What if someone wants to challenge their co-workers or companies want to initiate challenges within their business unit or in the community? Any format is welcome!
What if a company or individual cannot host or attend a dinner party, but still wants to help out. How can they do this?
- By making a donation to First Steps.
- By providing us with products or services, which can be used as prizes for our hosts and guests.
