Margaret-Ann Blaney Bursary Fund
History
The Margaret-Ann Blaney Bursary was founded 2005 in honor of Margaret-Ann Blaney who was at the time, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, and Training, Employment and Development. The Board of Directors of First Steps Housing Project Inc. (First Steps) was compelled to honor her for her dedication to poverty and social issues in Saint John and her special interest in First Steps. The Bursary was launched at the "Step out For First Steps" Gala fundraiser on November 24th 2005. The first bursary will be awarded in 2006.
Bursary Amounts
There will be $2000.00 allocated for distribution per year.
The Bursary Committee can allocate this money to one or more applicants in amounts of no less than $500 and no more than $2000.00, totaling $2000.00 or less each year.
If there is no successful applicant, no money will be awarded that year.
Criteria to Apply
The person must be a resident or past resident of the First Steps Housing Project Inc. who is in need of financial assistance to continue her education.
What Can the Bursary be used for?
The Bursary can be used to pay tuition, books, travel, day care and any other expense approved by the Bursary Committee.
The person receiving the Bursary can be attending high school or any licensed reputable secondary education facility or any other course or program approved by the Bursary Committee. The committee has the right to approve or refuse applications based on the school or program being deemed not reputable.
